PolyPlus

We are working with PolyPlus Battery Company to position and gain exposure for its breakthroughs in lithium metal battery
chemistry enabling the construction of lithium metal/aqueous/air batteries with unprecedented energy density. The company is the inventor of advanced lithium-sulfur batteries, and is also creating lithium-water and lithium-air batteries that will deliver performance levels unachievable today.

The PolyPlus lithium-water battery has achieved the highest energy density ever recorded at 1,300 Wh/kg, many times more than the maximum delivered by current lithium-ion batteries. The battery boasts an extremely long lifetime, making it ideal for such applications as underwater robots or unmanned, underwater vehicles. The company also is developing a lithium-air rechargeable battery with exceptional energy density, which is advantageous for products such as portable electronics, and is working with Johnson Controls and Corning on a new generation of lithium-sulfur batteries aimed at the electric vehicle space. PolyPlus has an extensive patent portfolio covering key aspects of its technology including lithium-sulfur batteries, protected lithium anodes, lithium-air and aqueous-lithium batteries.

PolyPlus has received financial awards from the Department of Energy and ARPA-E to further develop and achieve commercialization for its battery products. The company has achieved significant recognition for its technology, earning the Edison Gold Medal Award and being named one of Time Magazine’s 50 top inventions for 2011. In addition, in a 2012 story, BusinessWeek asked, “Can PolyPlus Batteries Power the Future?
